The Impérial is yet another exquisite sparkling wine, but this time it is from a different champagne producing house; the legendary Moët & Chandon. This champagne house’s name has been closely associated with elegance, eliteness and high class champagnes throughout the years. If you ever attend a higher class gathering, you are sure to see Moët & Chandon bubblies being served. The reason for this is that Impérial and other sparkling wines from this house are all unique in their own right and extremely tasty. Regardless of what party you are attending, a glass of Moët & Chandon’s Impérial is sure to make it a whole lot better!

History of Impérial

Moët & Chandon is a French champagne producing house that was initially founded back in 1743. This is a winery that has been successfully leading the champagne brewing business for over two decades. Moët & Chandon is truly one of the most elegant champagne producing houses. In 2006, they even released a limited edition bottling of their “Be Fabulous” champagne that was decorated with Swarovski crystals. Moët & Chandon was supplying their champagne to most noble houses throughout Europe.

Impérial was created in 1869 by the founder’s grandson, Jean-Rémy Moët. He was the man responsible for bringing Moët & Chandon to an international prominence. Impérial is this champagne producing house’s flagship blend and it helped the winery become the household name it is today. Moët & Chandon sells over 28 million bottles of Impérial every year.

The Signature Blend of Impérial

The signature blend of Impérial consists of more than a hundred different wines; 20-30% of which are reserve wines that were specifically picked to compliment the blend’s complexity and maturity. If we were to put the wine ingredients into numbers, it would look something like this: 30-40% Pinot Noir, 30-40% Pinot Meunier and around 20-30% Chardonnay. This blend of wines makes the Impérial inimitable and one-of-a-kind.

The Characteristics of Impérial

As I’ve said before, Impérial is truly unique in all aspects. When you take the first whiff of the champagne’s aroma, you will most likely smell citrus, flowers, green apples and hazelnut. The aroma of Impérial is complex and quite deep. You can also smell the maturity and the aged ingredients that go into the champagne give it a lot of depth.

When you taste this champagne, you will feel the toasted hazelnut even more, with hints of fresh fruits. The champagne is somewhat dry and has a refreshing acidic taste to it.

The color of the Moët & Chandon Impérial champagne is lemon yellow, with shiny gold hues here and there. The bubbles of the sparkling wine are also fine and persistent. Impérial is best enjoyed with sushi, seafood, white meats and white fruits. Like most other sparkling wines of this caliber, Impérial also has an alcohol rate of 12%.
