History of Brut Premier
From 1776 to the 1900’s, the Louis Roederer champagne house was a highly successful business with many acres of vineyards. They were selling millions of bottles of their custom blended champagne and at one point, the Louis Roederer house was producing one tenth of all champagne in the world. However, in the First World War, almost half of the house’s vineyards were destroyed.
Léon Olry Roederer rebuilt the vineyards and create the new and unique blend that is so well known now. It took the house more than 40 years to get back to the top of the champagne food chain.
Currently, Louis Roederer is one of the biggest and most productive champagne houses in the world. Their most popular blend: Brut Premier. This is also one of the last independent family owned champagne houses.
The Signature Blend of Brut Premier
Brut Premier is a blend of around 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier. This gives the champagne a unique taste that you won’t get anywhere else. This champagne takes three different flavors and combines them into one perfect bundle.
Brut Premier is matured for three years in a cellar and then left in a bottle for six months to reach perfect maturity. This ensures that every bottle, every sip of Brut Premier is nothing less than perfect.
The Characteristics of Brut Premier
The style of Louis Roederer Brut Premier is refreshing, but with a huge depth of favor added. The scent of the champagne is very fresh and fruity, but complex at the same time. Some of the flavors that you might pick up on are pear, raspberry, blackberry or cherry.
The color of the champagne is pale gold, with some green hints here and there. This is where the fresh core fruit aromas and apple or citrus flavors come from. Due to the fresh taste of the champagne, it goes well with fish and shell fish. Since the alcohol rate is 12%, it will get you a bit tipsy without you even knowing about it.
